Waiting on the World to Change

These are the lyrics to John Mayer's song, "Waiting on the World to Change." Read the lyrics and tell me what they mean to you. Remember, songs are poetry!

Me and all my friends
We're all misunderstood
They say we stand for nothing and
There's no way we ever could

Now we see everything that's going wrong
With the world and those who lead it
We just feel like we don't have the means
To rise above and beat it

So we keep waiting
Waiting on the world to change
We keep on waiting
Waiting on the world to change

It's hard to beat the system
When we're standing at a distance
So we keep waiting
Waiting on the world to change

Now if we had the power
To bring our neighbors home from war
They would have never missed a Christmas
No more ribbons on their door
And when you trust your television
What you get is what you got
Cause when they own the information, oh
They can bend it all they want

That's why we're waiting
Waiting on the world to change
We keep on waiting
Waiting on the world to change

It's not that we don't care,
We just know that the fight ain't fair
So we keep on waiting
Waiting on the world to change

And we're still waiting
Waiting on the world to change
We keep on waiting waiting on the world to change
One day our generation
Is gonna rule the population
So we keep on waiting
Waiting on the world to change

We keep on waiting
Waiting on the world to change

I didn't read it because it was to long, but it looks interesting.

I love this song! But I never really thought about what it meant. I think he's saying that he wants the world to change, but it takes time, that's why he's waiting. I think we should all do research on how the world is getting worse, I mean our economy is bad, we have a war going on, and global warming is getting worse! And if we learn about what we are doing, then we can make a difference in the world and change it, not in a bad way, but a good way. We need to watch our actions and work on changing the place we live in.

Allana,
I love this song as well. My favorite part is when he says, "When you trust the television, what you get is what you've got. Because when they own the information, oh they can bend it all they want." I think that it speaks to the powerful hold that the media has on us. Many of us fall victim to sitting for hours in front of the tv and believing everything we see. When you are reporting the information, it's easy to put your own spin on things. We really have to try hard to keep open minds and decide things for ourselves.

I wish the world would change to a peaceful place where there are no wars and no people hating people but sadly war is still happening and people still hate other people.

This song is great but I never really knew what it meant sometimes I have to think about what the song means than just listen to it that's why a song was made in the first place.
